| Michael D. Tschoepe, M.D. |
Michael D Tschoepe, M.D. is an expertly skilled
ophthalmologist who specializes in LASIK, other refractive surgeries,
state-of-the-art cataract procedures, and multi-focal lens implants (also
called refractive lens surgery). His training encompasses a comprehensive array
of laser surgeries and diseases of the eye. He is the eye surgeon of choice for
many doctors, eye doctors, and their families in New
Braunfels and West Texas
(Midland/Odessa) where he has helped many of them see without glasses or
contacts.
Dr Tschoepe has maintained a successful private practice in New Braunfels for over 25 years and has been performing
refractive procedures longer than most ophthalmologists in the San
Antonio and Central Texas regions.
He has performed literally thousands of refractive procedures including RK,
PRK, LASIK, Epi-LASIK, LRI, and multi-focal lens replacements and has
unexcelled experience in the region with the “no-cut”, “no flap” LASEK
procedure considered by most ophthalmologists to be a safer alternative to LASIK.
In addition, he has been using multi-focal implants consistently since 1998.
This experience combined with his extensive refractive practice endows him with
the ability to customize his surgical approach to each individual patient,
thereby meeting their needs, expectations, and safety concerns more accurately.
After being accepted into the University of Texas medical
school at San Antonio at the age of 19, the youngest in his class, Dr Tschoepe
received the Evans-Swann Scholarship (given to only two students each year)
four years in a row. He was also honored to be one of 2 students chosen to
teach basic sciences to his underclassmen while in medical school. He received
his medical degree in 1976 having graduated in the top five of his class. He
completed an internal medicine internship and a three year ophthalmology
residency in San Antonio
where he was chief resident in his third year. He was certified by the American
Board of Ophthalmology in 1981, and is currently a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Maintaining an outstanding professional relationship with
the New Braunfels, San
Marcos, Seguin and San
Antonio medical communities as well as in Midland/Odessa, Dr
Tschoepe also holds hospital affiliations with McKenna
Memorial Hospital,
Eye Surgery of Texas in Odessa, and Vision
Health Specialties/Laser Network in Midland.
He has served in a local capacity as President of the Comal County Medical
Society and Chief of Staff at McKenna
Memorial Hospital.
He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American
Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, San Antonio Society of
Ophthalmology, Texas Ophthalmological Association, Texas Medical Association,
and Comal County Medical Society. He is President and Executive Director of RealEyes Vision Center.
Endowed by his Creator with three special gifts, (a keen
intelligence, a caring, compassionate personality, and remarkable surgical
skill), Dr Tschoepe is particularly well-suited to treat every patient with the
special attention they deserve. Not only
does he strive to treat each one well, but he tries to actually serve
each one well. His attention to detail and vast experience are particularly
valuable assets.
“The most important factor in making what I do so rewarding
is seeing the number of people that are so ecstatic after I am able to help
them see again without corrective lenses,” says Dr Tschoepe. “From refractive
laser surgery (e.g., LASIK) to refractive lens exchange and cataract removal,
the smiles on my patients faces say it all, and I am the one that truly
receives the blessing!”
